BEACH CLUB PROGRESS UPDATE 2021

Progress is continuing at the Beach Club!

The pool and walkovers have been the main focus over the past few weeks.

We have refurbished the three walkovers that stretch down to the beach.  Much of the material came from the IPE wood that was on the pool deck.  The rest of the material is kiln-dried wood that will last a long time and the current color will turn grey to match the existing material.  Benches have been added on all three walkovers, which will provide a nice place to gather and enjoy our beautiful sunsets.

We have added pavers and wooden columns to the “Items Repurposed” list in addition to the repurposed materials in the previous update. The stone pavers from the pool deck will be used as revetments to help stabilize a riverbank in the Defuniak Springs area. The round hollow wooden columns under the center roof structure will be sunk to be used as an artificial reef to attract marine life. The Board and Management is actively working to rehome the two remaining sea turtle statues to local organizations.

Attached below are pictures of the current stage of construction and the new benches on the walkovers to date.

Thank you,

The Retreat Board of Directors

BEACH CLUB POOL DEMOLITION UPDATE 2021

We are excited to announce that the Association has received its Minor Development Order and Demolition permits this month!

As you know, demolition has begun. We are expecting the demo to be completed in two months.

Most of the material from the demolition is being recycled or repurposed either back into The Retreat or into the Walton County community:

  1. The Ipe wood from the pool deck is being used to replace/repair the step planks on the three Gulf front walkovers. New material will be purchased to replace the hand railings and side rails to complete the refurbishment.

  2. The locker cages are being donated to an animal shelter. The space under the pool will be transformed to golf cart and bicycle parking to help mitigate parking.

  3. Metal railings and gates will be taken to a recycling center.

  4. Concrete will be used by demo contractor for needed fill on property he owns, thereby avoiding the cost we would have paid to a landfill operator.

Thank you,

Board of Directors
